We begin with a 100% natural kukui nut and then cover it with copper by a process called electroforming which adheres the copper to the wood. We immediately cover the copper with a layer of pure silver to prevent the copper from oxidizing. We then electroplate another layer of 99.9 Fine Silver on top which may be worn as is or the silver provides the best layer to adhere a final electroplated layer of 24K Gold or 18K Rose Gold as a final product. We use only 99.9% Pure Fine Silver, 24K Gold or 18K Rose Gold for a final coating because these pure forms of metal oxidize less than the cheaper percentages.
Our Kukui Nut Lei are created for both males and females and our artists have also created a shorter Kukui Nut Lei especially for Slack Key Guitar Players as the shorter length does not bang on their guitar while performing and may of course be worn for fashion or Hula performed by men or women.
